Wow. I can't believe no one has posted here yet.

Well, there's always a first time, so let's talk about Pre-released Games.

I'm assuming this discussion can cover PC games, so I will start the ball rolling (or the thread started, as it were).

I tend to like reality-based strategy games and flight simulators a lot, though I love Star Wars-based games as well.

My favorite PC game (as of August 2007) is Sid Meier's Civilization IV. It's sort of like Sim City or real-time strategy games where you build cities, armies, and develop tech to advance through history and build "an empire that stands the test of time." I've owned four versions of this (the original Civ, Civ II, the interim Civ II: The Test of Time, and Civ IV), and the current one (first came out in 2005) is the best so far.

If you have played this game or any in the Civ series, I'd love to see what you think!

I don't really know about civilization game.
I prefer playing action-rpg-bit puzzle games like Castlevania: Symphony of The Night.

or Kamen Rider game of course. ha ha ha

Hmm. Different Strokes for Different Folks, I suppose.

What action games do you prefer, then?

Mm hmm.
My friend has some Civ series, older version i guess, but they're always incompatible with my operating system. so i haven't had a chance to try 'em so far.

BTW I'm not sure what "Pre-released game" thread means. maybe it's a place to discuss games that is yet to be released soon.

Maybe DFG should provide another place to discuss our fav. games.
Currently, my fav. games are the first X-COM series, UFO Defense and Terror From The Deep.

You like Starwars games? We may have a common, then. I'm Startrek fan. or maybe better said, starship fan ^^.

I'd suggest you try and get Sid Meier's Civilization IV if it's a matter of platform incompatibility. The original version is MS-DOS only and is really primitive in comparison to the 2005 version, especially since it comes in floppies rather than CD-ROM or DVD-ROM for installation. Civ II still runs on Windows XP but the multi-media features won't run on it, and those are what makes that version fun.

About the Pre-released Games category, I interpreted that as meaning older games that have been previously released.

I once played a Star Trek PC game which was set in the Original Series era. I don't remember the name of it though.

I love the new version of Civilization IV. In some ways, it's harder to master because it has many new features, but I like how they automated many of the city management concepts, such as trade routes with other civilizations.

I used to play a lot more games than I do now.

My favorites are/were:

Star Wars Rebellion
Microsoft Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far
Wings of Fury
Star Wars X-Wing
Star Wars Monopoly

Oh, wow. I used to play the X-Wing series a lot myself. Kind of exciting Star Wars flight sim. Hated the scoring system, though.

Sorry, i've just confirmed my friend, actually the faulty game he lend to me was "colonization", not "civilization"

BTW
If it's "older games that have been previously released" why it's not "released games" instead of "pre-released games"? just curious..

/to CapVid, i like SW Rebellion too.. is there a new game with that kind of gameplay?

Anyone played Deadlock or Deadlock 2 ? They're old Win95 games..

To Protoss:

I think LucasArts' Star Wars: Empire at War has a similar concept but it is a game that requires patience and learning. It's pretty cool though.

You know, I almost bought Sid Meier's Colonization but MicroProse went out of business before I remembered the game existed.

I think if you tried Sid Meier's Civilization IV you'd like it.

I've got that one. Got it for myself with my Christmas money (or part of it) in December of '06 and I'm still trying to learn it.

Awesome graphics, I must say.

Very cool.

By the way, did you ever get the F-15 game from eBay?

Oh, hey, I meant to mention that! Yes, I actually did.

The graphics aren't as photo realistic as, say, the Microsoft Flight Sims but they still look nice and the game is pretty good for a late 1990s product. It runs great on Windows XP, too.

Even though the game only focuses on Iran/Iraq (and it was designed before the current Iraq War), it still has some nice bits. I like the campaign options, plus the mission builder toolkit.

Hi there.

You like Civ too? Great. I like that one but I'm still learning it.

You'll like it a lot. Trust me. Just be careful when it looks for updates because the latest one doesn't work at all.

Do you think it's worth the money? I'm a bit amazed at the amount you willing to pay for an old game.. i thought you'd seek cheaper solutions. i've seen a lot site willing to let you download anything just for a small fee.

I'm not that into civilization game because of the lack of tempo. I prefer sports and action games that have a little more speed to the game.

Sometimes going for "cheap solutions" ends up being so not worth it, though.

A case in point: That Civ game I'm probably driving the rest of the forum crazy with. I thought it'd be cheaper if I bought it used on eBay (not the same as downloading, but still cheaper than a new off-the-shelf copy at Amazon), and at $19.99 it was a steal compared to the $30 or so the MSRP was at the time. I ended up having to get a new copy because one flipping file on Disc 2 was damaged and wouldn't install into the hard drive.

And downloading older games for a small fee is sometimes not so easy. I tried dl'ing F-15 Strike Eagle III and it didn't work out too well either.

SIMS is a good game. How close to it are the two?
